Sweden WC Classic football shirt in1958, their best achievement ever in a WC tournament.

With the beginning of the 50’s, Sweden build its reputation with an outstanding performance. Despite not having a professional team (they were all amateurs), Sweden managed to finish 3^rd, and achieve its first ever medal at a WC. They were titled as “Unofficial best European Team” as they achieved the best result amongst European countries.

Building on the 1950 success, the Swedish football association allowed for professional players to play in the National team in 1956. Having entered the 1958 WC, as they were hosting it, Sweden achieved its pinnacle, defeating strong teams, such as: West Germany, USSR, Hungary. In the final they were facing the incredibly skilled Brazil, with a young Pele’s first ever World Cup participation. Within 4 minutes of the game, Sweden was ahead in the score 1-0. However, minutes later Vava would equalize the game. The second half was owned by Pele and his skills, he scored a hat trick and guided Brazil to a 5-2 victory.
