The biggest highlight of this football season was the FA Cup final against Liverpool. Newcastle United was appearing at a final for a record 11^th time, in front it had a powerful Liverpool side led by Kevin Keagan. Despite Newcastle getting to a good start, their defence could not cope with the Liverpool forwards, and eventually the game tilted towards Liverpool, with a 3-0 score.
