In the 1971 France focused on qualifying for the 1972 European Cup. Les Blues started very well in the group, winning against Norway in both game and with a drew in Budapest against Hungary. Unfortunately, the defeats against Hungary and Bulgaria meant France got the third place behind this two teams. In the squad we can remember the Saint-Etienne players: Bereta, Bosquier and Lech, but also Djorkaeff and Henri Michael.
