FC Schalke Retro Shirt 1983/84 After getting relegated to the end league, the task for the 1983/84 campaign was clear: Fighting for direct promotion. After reaching the 3rd Spot after the 6th matchday, Schalke defendet the promotions spots and in the end managed to go to the first league in a sovereign way. The relegation had also its good side: a 18 year old talent was given the chance to play in the first team. And this boy, named Olaf Than, knew how to take the chance. In his first ever professional season he managed to score 14 goals and contributed to the run to the semifinal in the german cup with 4 goals. This Player went on to become a club-legend in the following years and a multi-caped national player.

An absolute football-classic was the DFB-Cup semifinal against Bayern Munich. In the last minute of extra-time, Thon scored a freekick to make it 6:6 as a final result. Thon scored in this game 3 goals and became immortal for the Schalke supporters. After the next relegation in 1988 Thon was transferred to Bayern Munich.
