The British performed very well during this world cup and during the group stage displayed the most terrific and outstanding football, beating France, Czechoslovakia and Kuwait and finishing 1^st. In the quarterfinals, the team faced a tough West German side, even though they were able to draw an even score against them, they would then go on and do the same against rival Spain, meaning their knockout, in favour of the W. Germans.

Their elimination was a surprise, since the team managed to not lose one game throughout the tournament and having performed well and dominantly it was a shame for them.

However, this shirt represents an decade of the English gaining respect from their opponents, as in the 1990 world cup they managed to finish fourth, losing out in a penalty shoot-out.
