1982, the year England would return to a World Cup after 12 years of absence. The event was to be hosted in Spain and it united the toughest teams around the globe in a 4-week period. England was led by coach Ron Greenwood, they would face France, Czechoslovakia and Kuwait on the group stages. The team outperformed their rivals one by one, leading them to the top position of their group, and finishing 1st the group round of the competition.

Unfortunately, the following round, England would see their star striker Kevin Keegan suffer of an injury that limited his game. The team would draw against West Germany and Spain, being knocked out, despite being undefeated. The failure to achieve better of the English was highly seen as a disappointment, since the team had the talent and power to achieve greater things.
