CCCP Football shirt 1980's, the original CCCP letters imprinted in the middle.
This team was coached by Lobanovsky (Master of Sports of USSR), he was known for his methodology and for his past success with Dinamo Kyiv. Despite failure to advance in the Spain WC 1982 and Mexico 1986, the team enjoyed some future success in the European Championship (In 1984 they did not qualify).
Precisely in 1988, European championship being held in West Germany. The USSR was able to advance 1st in the Group Stages, being unbeaten. They would then defeat Italy to go face The Netherlands in the final. Despite showing great promise in the previous rounds, The Netherlands led by Marco Van Basten (top scorer of the tournament) won 2-0.
