Retro shirt Algeria, “The golden generation”, the most successful period for Algerian football.

The 1982 season was marked by the World Cup in Spain.  Their opening game was against no other than the reigning European Champions, West Germany. Surprisingly, Algeria beat West Germany on a 2-1 score. On their second game they would lose to Austria on a 2-0 score. Their last game of the tournament would be a win over Chile. However, on the last day of the group stages, West Germany was playing Austria. They both knew that a win by 1 or 2 goals from the Germans, would secure a place in the next round for both teams, and knock out Algeria. After an early goal by West Germany, both teams decided to kick the ball around aimlessly, waiting for the final blow.

Algeria formerly protested to FIFA, however the result was let to stand. In future WC tournaments FIFA introduced a revised qualification system, to ensure fair play.
